Pupils Engage in World Drug Day Sensitization Program As The World Celebrates The International Day Against Drug Abuse And Illicit Trafficking

In observance of this year's International Day against Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, pupils from Coral Spring Model School Abuja, visited the FCT Control Committee of Health and Human Secretariat to participate in a vital sensitisation program. The event, hosted at Light Way Academy in Wuse 2, Abuja, emphasised the theme, “The evidence is clear: invest in prevention.”

The program featured an engaging presentation by Pharmacist Eze, who provided our pupils with extensive insights into the detrimental effects of drug abuse. Eze’s session aimed to educate and empower young attendees with the essential knowledge to make healthy choices and remain drug-free.

“The goal is to arm our youth with the necessary tools to avoid the pitfalls of drug abuse and to make informed decisions for a healthier future,” stated Pharmacist Eze during the event.

Through interactive discussions and informative sessions, our pupils were exposed to the severe impact of drug abuse on individuals and society. They learned about the physical, psychological, and social consequences, underscoring the importance of prevention and the role of education in fostering a drug-free community.

The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, known globally as World Drug Day, is observed every year on June 26. This day serves to bolster efforts and cooperation in the pursuit of a drug-free world. The 2024 campaign highlights the necessity for drug policies grounded in scientific research, human rights, compassion, and a comprehensive understanding of the socio-economic and health dimensions of drug use.

The event at Light Way Academy was a testament to these principles, showcasing the power of education and awareness in the fight against drug abuse. Our pupils left the program with a deeper understanding of the issue and a reinforced commitment to making positive choices.
